Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig
The Simpsons Movie has made a killing at the box office. Move goers must have been eager to watch the animated sitcom on the big screen. As Jay West writing for CanWest explains the new Simpson's movie contains the Spider-Pig joke which has become an Internet classic.
There's a scene where Homer holds the pig so it can put hoofprints on the ceiling and sings, "Spider-Pig, Spider-Pig, he does whatever a Spider-Pig does," to the tune of Spider-Man. It's gloriously moronic and it encapsulates the genius of Homer: cultural acuity with a lobotomy. Homer brings to selfish life a stupidity so playful it stands both as satire and, well, stupidity.
He is all Three Stooges rolled into one, but with doughnuts.
It is moronic and funny but The Simpsons isn't always the Three Stooges with doughnuts. They also focus on current events and popular culture. There was that segment from the Halloween special last year that satirized the Iraq War - you can see a clip here.
But back to Spider-Pig. He has become an Internet phenomenon. Google already has 800,000 results for spider-pig and YouTube has nearly 500 videos containing the words spider pig. If you have never heard the joke you should be able to by playing one of those videos.
